Howdy PVPU. This is a quick post to see how many people would be interested or available for a PVP-BASIC course on the weekday. Specifically, this class will still cover all the same material as PVP-BASIC, but because of the nature of running classes on the weekdays, it will have to be much, much shorter.

What this means:
The materials for the class must be read before hand. The lecture portion of the class will last about 2 hours and there will be NO time for you to try and catch up on reading during class.
*Questions will need to be asked in fleet. Not over Ventrilo. AGONY members can answer those questions there while the lecture continues.
*Portions of the class that are usually practiced during the lecture will no longer be practiced. Instead I'll explain them and if you have questions the staff will clear up any confusion.
If there is enough interest in weekday classes you will begin seeing them on a regular basis.

Well the theory part is basicly done as an "audio"-log of what's written on the wiki. Cutting out all the practical training and the roam afterwards kinda kills the reason for doing the class ingame.

Portions of the practical will not be practiced - some will and I didn't see any mention of scrapping the 0.0 roaming part.

Ripard has taught Basic many times - he knows what's important to practice.

Indeed. There will certainly still be a 0.0 gang after the theory.

As someone waiting to get into the next PVP-Basic class I prefer to wait for a weekend course because... 1. For a beginner the preparations for this very first class are rather demanding (and expensive for a permanently broke char like mine !lol ), so I'd rather prefer to enjoy the whole program. 2. I do not have very regular working hours. Doing a lot of overtime depending on the work load I cannot really know in advance if I have the neccessary time during that weekday. 3. As the courses are filling up very quickly I want to keep the option to enroll in a US-TZ class if needed to be (I'm EU-TZ). That would not be possible during weekdays. Those are my 2 cents, Vora

I would absolutly love a weekday course, as saturday classes are hard for me to join, stuff always comes up on the weekends, and i like to spend saturdays with my GF. Might i suggest though, maybe instead of shortening it, offer it in 2 day segments. Maybe like Wensday evening and Thursday evening. Theory on wensday, and roaming and practice on Thursdays. Just an idea, but either way i absolutly love the idea of weekday classes!

I don't think we're considering stopping the weekend classes, just trying to gauge whether there's enough interest to make weekdays viable.

That's an interesting idea, the main problem I can see is it means students have to be available on both days (although the practical can be skipped and you still graduate, it really shouldn't be!).

It would also mean that all the material from the theory part is no longer fresh in the student's minds, which could be an issue both from a learning perspective and a 'trying to keep everything running smoothly' perspective.

Having said that, it has its merits and it works for non-eve related courses, so it could be worth considering, although I'm not sure it's on the cards at this stage.

I would certainly be unavailable, but Teg is more than capable of running these things.

I can see some advantages and disadvantages to splitting it up into two parts... Getting everyone to show up on time two days in a row would be harder to do, and there is the not so fresh in your mind factor. However as teaching real life stuff has shown me breaking long classes up helps keep the students fresh, and those who are a bit more aggressive/have the time can practice between the lecture and gang re-enforcing what was learned. I think a bigger emphasis on reading the class material and perhaps giving students a longer material lead time might help to make the class a success. Maybe a pre-class fitting deadline in order to Gang Balance ahead of time? Just some thoughts...It's probably is worth an attempt I'd say...

I think I would still prefer to do a weekend course but if a Weekday course came up sooner then I would certainly enroll.

Would there be any special dispensation to allow those who complete a weekday course free or easier entry into a standard weekend course?

Once you've paid for and attended a class, you have permanent access to all the materials and a permanent invite to that class. It's helpful if people can sign up on the thread to say they can attend as an alumnus, but in practise, people just turn up and what's another bloodthirsty pilot between friends...?

Alumni are welcome for either the seminar or the practical (roaming gang) part, or both. There are several people who make it a habit to turn up to the Basic for example. There's no cheaper fun to be had than a T1 frigate roam with 50-100 other people.

How much shorter would a weekday course be over the weekend course? Fridays are pretty free for me since I only have one class and I can get my research capped for the week before then.

Well got the idea for splitting it cause im in college atm and they split most classes, i know it sure as hell makes it alot easier and i dont blow my brains out. Also taking on the view of a college might help, talkin about how they look at it like the student paid, they can put in as much effort as they want, but if they dont perform up to standards, we just wont pass em.

Alumni are always welcome to the class. You should sign up to the class thread to ensure a place, but if you don't you can try your chances on the day. There are some limits on class sizes, we have limited places on Ventrilo for instance.......so those that are not signed up for the day will be the first to miss out if we reach one of our physical limits.
