Situation:
WolfPacks class incounter in L-TS8S.
Dessies V BattleShips. ( Alliance DarkSide)

Pilots:
The Class

Report:
Fleet warped down to gate in X-7 where everyone jumped in. Using the Co-Ops pilot as a TAM and several people burning out to them the Battle was on.

An interdiction bubble was dropped on the 2 Battleships to start with, and soon we had more battleships warp in to re-enforce them.

The struggle that took place was one that had to be experienced to have a full appreciation for. At the start the swarm of drones released was of concern, plus I had spotted a few sentry drones that they had already placed. Damps, Tracks, Scrams and Webs were dished out like candy in a school yard. 3 Targets had been called: 2 Dominix and an Armageddon. Because we had a leak in Intel, I found myself (as the FC) being targeted and scrammed in short order, but despite this I did manage to stay in the fight long enough to see at least 2 of the Battleships go down. I soon found myself in a Pod, and to true Agony style LtCol Laurentius stepped up and took the reins, taking the fleet in tow. Without a hitch I heard the targets being called and the fight was going strong. Laurentius soon found that he was a primary and had to leave the fight. As he found himself warp a 3rd brave soul stepped up and continued calling. Soon LtCol Laurentius was back, but this was a short lived return.

In the end there were 6 Battleship wrecks from DarkSide spread across the field and a handful of Destroyer wrecks that laid in the stillness of space. When I found myself in the system we set on them with a vengeance, collecting various modules to be used on ships in the future, for even more glory in combat.

Having heard that the gate back to X-7 was been held by an ever growing number of enemy ships the retreat back to X-7 was taken through the neighbouring side systems.

This was a definite highlight of the roam. After that it was found that the enemy forces were in such an array of ships that it boggled the mind, considering that our fleet which had a total value of no more than of 300M ISK was so deserving of the lavish amounts of attention and effort the opposition was investing.

Results:

5 BattleShips, all within 6 Min. Not counting the rest killed in system after.

Kills = 7 ( 598.8 M) no pods added.
Losses = 24

Recommendations:
Don't shoot the Wreck.
Zealot

Head count for the class at a end of what can be called a trying experince.
16 Kills.
6 BattleShips, 4 Stealth Bombers, 2 light Interdictors, 3 Heavy Assults and a frigate.

Anne Bonney, a notorious pirate in her own right, told her husband, Calico Jack Bonney, as he was captured by pirate hunters,
“if you'd have fought like a man you needn't hang like a dog”.

My catalyst was blown after the 2nd battleship and I warped off to safety. So, I didn't get to see the rest of the fight. This fight had the potential to go very badly because of this serious intel leak. It was obvious that the enemy knew who was FC because the FC quickly came under fire. Kudos to the Agony pilots. This was a great example for us (students and alumni) on how to keep things together when it hits the fan.

Indeed...

Maybe there should be a rule about loot? I speak for myself but I believe others may think the same, have a rule about someone from Agony to loot the wrecks, whatever is in the wrecks goes to Agony, this way no one has to even have wrecks in the overview...

This was the first time I'd shot anything with an interceptor. I must be doing something wrong, because I didn't lose it. I was amazed how long the destroyers lasted in this fight, I thought they'd thin us out a lot faster. I think if I was them I'd have decided I couldn't fight the fog, that getting a few more destroyer kills wasn't worth losing any more ships, and bugged out earlier. But they seemed determined to try. Or did we really have them all locked down??

Wow my classes were so long ago the link stopped working. Look I took a bunch of them ok? It was a long time ago. Just trust me on it.

I was surprised how durable the destroyers proved too, guess that just demonstrates the importance of distributed ewar - even though in this case there was little ECM, the tracks/damps added to survivability immensely.

Battleships fitted with battleship-class weapons can't hit moving destroyers worth much to begin with (they have somewhat of a problem even with battlecruisers - heck, even with battleships that are moving "too fast"). Ewar of course also adds to survivability immensely. P.S. Damn i missed all the fun again !lol

I managed to draw aggro a coupla times, warp out and back again. The 3rd time in, I made the mistake of not warping out fast enough and found my ship and then my pod locked and lost. Had I warped out on the 3rd attempt, I'm sure I could have saved my ship to fight another day. Was a good experience and I'll know to warp out again sooner the next time I'm targetted. P,S. I recall that one of the ships that locked and killed me was an Onyx and several other ships smaller than the BSs.

This was just for the first part of the fight, they did get other support in of which we killed another 5 ships.
Includeding a flycatcher , Ishtar ect..
Didn't add them in as they where after that main battle by a 4 minutes after the last Battleship went pop.
This was just the Fremen Sietch guys I made the AAR for.

Ishtar (Heavy assault) = 264.2 M
Kestrel = 3.3 M
Purifier (Covert ops) = 45.5 M
Flycatcher (Interdictor) = 84.7 M
Nemesis (Covert ops) = 76.7 M

So another 474.4 M ISK on there side over the next 12 minutes in the same system at the gate. :amazed:

It might be a really stupid guess, but i suspect some people could be trying to target using "brackets" rather than overview entries. That, or it's some kind of a bug, because it's coming up way too often...

I've noticed it's possible to get the game into a state where just single-clicking on something will target it (without using ctrl). So if you click on a wreck just so you can hit "approach" you'll target it. In this state I think you get the screen-wide crosshair on your cursor. It seems to happen to me after I try to kill a pod but can't get lock on it before someone else in the gang pops it, and for some reason my weapons aren't cycling after the failed lock. Anyone know what puts you in that state?

That state happens when you click on your weapons when you're not locked on anything. It's useful when you're waiting for a target to appear and you want to shoot at it as soon as you get a lock. Pre-activate your weapon/ewar modules, wait for the target to arrive, then click on him. You will start locking him and as soon as it succeeds your weapons will fire at him. With the pod, you probably click your weapons too late, after the pod has already been blown up, and go into this mode. Some people are super insanely fast at pwning those pods... edit: This is NOT a very safe way to use your weapons in hi-sec especially. If you end up clicking something by mistake, you WILL lock and you WILL fire on the target. As far as i know once the lock starts there's no stopping it. To exit from this mode, just click the activated (flashing) weapon modules again to deactivate them.

Or click a distant object such as a gate or planet (on your overview is fine).

Oh, of course, that's just the first step in the standard cycling weapons technique. I guess I blanked on what happens if you don't subsequently click on a celestial, but I remember trying to scram some gates back in the day. I do know how to turn it off safely at least. I've almost entirely stopped cycling weapons on the larger ships I tend to fly since I always have time to click modules before my lock finishes. BTW, I checked my logs right after the incident, and no, it wasn't me who shot the food. :) Edit: To clarify for anyone else reading this, IIRC Brutive's and Azual's aforementioned exit techniques will have 2 different effects. Clicking on the module will just turn it off and put you back into default mode, but clicking on a distant celestial will put you into cycle weapons mode, where a ctrl-click will target then shoot.

I thought it will give you that "proceed with dangerous action" dialog if you're about to fire at something Concord-protected. Might need to doublecheck though
