As someone who has sat through several Basics, I want to say props to SkrewedUp for the best explained scanner tutorial I've experienced yet, you guys are doing great work improving the curriculum.

That's was a truly good time. Good information, followed by very good execution. If I could make minor suggestions, it would be not to focus too heavily on the material that the students are supposed to have read on their own. Also, and this is because I suffer from it too when speaking to others, trying to eliminate saying "um" in between sentences during the lecture or fleet commands during the roam. These are just minor suggestions, and in no way did I think it took anything away from the quality or fun of the class. I just figured you guys get nothing but thumbs up from everyone, and that you might appreciate a little constructive criticism. :)

Inspiriing Course!!!! Loved it! The three parts, I thought were laid out superbly. The Theory: Very well presented and questions were answered quickly and accurately. I was actualy nice to hear a few 'I am not sure' in there as some questions were handed over to other Agony pilots that may have had a little more experience in that particular field. Its reasuring, at least for me it is, to work with people that can say this and not feel silly or bad over it. The Practice: Again, covered very well and enforced what was discussed before immensely. The scanning tutorial was of particular use when A) I got my ship blown up and had to get back to Nonni on my own and B) when at 4.20am (GMT) I decided to call it a night and also had to make my own way back. Although I have used it before, in a vey general sense, I now understand just how important it is. The Roam: Some may have considered it unsuccessfull due to the lack of activity in the regions, which from what I gathered was down to some political issues (general consensus was that it was due to some MP's within the Allianced admitting fake expenses). We did, however, manage to find a large fleet which proceeded to hand our backsides to around half of the fleet. That said, losing ships is an experience in Eve too and I am thankfull of the opportunity to have died and to have learnt who to deal with that and get back to where you need to be. Just want to say a massive thanks to both Screwedup and Giznitt for an outstanding lead and also a special thanks to the other Agony pilots (to many to mention - but you know who you are) that supported the Roam. I mean, 5 hours (or so) just scouting and watching out for us.... that takes dedication. All in all, highly enjoyable. One suggestion though, please enter into the course description that no matter how long the course or how late it may run, when you think you are tired and want to go to bed, by the time you get there, your mind will have bounced back to some point in the evening and your mind will be buzzing. The additional moduel needed in this case is one enclosed in casin and is swallowed with a little water and is called a sleeping pill :P Barrak

It was a lot quieter than normal unfortunately - hearing the Torrinos gate was clear on a Saturday afternoon was an indication of how quiet the region would be. I actually encountered that fleet 1-2 mins before you but the only way I know that is because of the lossmail - I've been having warp to desktop (crash) problems since last weeks patch on two machines (only common factor is ATI cards). When I logged back in I was in X-70 and you guys were already calling the losses out. The Hurricane was funny although it took me AGES to rep it back up. I think Gizznitt did a good job given the scarcity of targets. I logged in Cloud and logged back in this morning (after too little sleep) and got myself podded (again :D) on a bubbled gate. Ah well it got me back to X-70 faster anyway :) Do come back and fly the roam as alumni - you will be more than welcome.

The course was informative and well-organized; I picked up quite a number of new things. The first hours of the roam were rather uneventful, but I very much enjoyed myself in the last 2-3 hours. Definately a good way to spend almost 12 hours. I will definately be back for more.

OK, did the class yesterday. It started at 18:00 eve time (20:00 in France) exactly. The theoretical part did not contain many things I didn't know already from the Agony wiki mostly; however, clearly the fact is that you nead to rote learn vessel types, your guns' tracking speed, and that I clearly didn't know and still don't for the most part. In the practical part the most useful thing I learned is how to approach in a spiral. I though when you hit the orbit button you approached in a spiral; not so! Instead, you need to keep the target in the middle of the screen and keep double-click aligning halfway between it and the screen edge. As soon as you reach your optimal you hit orbit. Also learned plenty about tactical bookmarks and scanning. The roaming part was very interesting, as I saw how a fleet moves in a "real world" operation: people get sent ahead for intel and report back to the fc. Only then are we allowed to jmmmmph. Our first attack was somewhat a suicide mission : fc knew we would lose but we had found no target yet and we needed practical experience. So we went through the gate, uncloacked, attacked and were destroyed in 1 minute flat. Some people escaped, I didn't. Got podded - but with my implantless jc, I would have autodestructed anyway to get back to Nonni to get to my spare frigs. Some people waited in Nonni. I decided not to. I didn't really care if I got podded again, and wanted to rejoin the fleet for some action. So I did. Saw a bubble from an interdictor, but didn't get caught. I safely rejoined the fleet in a lowsec station (Saranen system I think). And then, everybody that was still in Nonni got told to do the same. So I waited. After that we got out and hunted again. This time we caught some lone targets that we ganked (is that the right term?). I myself got no killmail. After that we went into a station to have a pause. At that time it was 2pm eve time (4pm in France) and I was dead tired, so I stopped there. Do I have some negative comments? I am a grinch so yes ;) I felt that the fleet was not as well organized as it could have been. Many times we were cold warped with no emergency announced. fc could have announced "align to X" or "warping to a tac in 5 seconds" and waited 5 seconds, since people were asking for repairs at the time; this would have been enough to get back drones. We did once have to come back for drones because of that. The j-word was heard spoken by people giving intel ("they jumped"). Targets were spoken but not broadcasted in cases where there would have been plenty of time to do it, and voice didn't always come clear whereas text does and allows to target without searching the overview, which takes time even if it is set up correctly and can only be done after uncloacking. When people were behind, there could have been somebody asked to announce which system we were in in fleet chat; at the end somebody did it. Altogether I was quite happy with the experience and I am going to register for further classes.

Fantastic, simply fantastic; the most fun I've had in EvE so far.

A big "Thank You" to SkrewedUp, Gizznitt, Oli, Othran, AEther, Caldak and everyone else I've forgotten. I learned lots of new stuff in the theory and practical parts and even, despite the dearth of targets, found my name on a killmail or two (maybe next time I'll actually get a killmail :D).

I have to say what struck me most was the professionalism of the recon pilots - cool and calm under pressure and when reporting - you guys certainly train them well.

I'll be tagging along as an alumnus for the next few times and am looking forward to the next wolfpack class!

Nice class, explanations and roaming. I got podded in our first suicide attack, but that taught me an invaluable lesson. As soon as we jumped into the mob I got excited, forgot all about holding cloak and waiting for the FC instructions, and proceeded on my own to put point on the first ship I got in my list, an Ares. 5 seconds later I was locked by dozens of ships, another five seconds and I was in my pod. That lesson alone (hold cloak until told otherwise, wait for the FC instructions) was worth the admission price. I won't forget it again. This is my second basic course as alumni, and again it was worth it. Each teacher and FC gives its own twist to the course, there is always something new to learn and the roaming practice is a must for those of us living in empire. Thanks once more to all the involved Agony pilots.

Gotta echo most of the positive sentiments of other students ScrewedUp did a great job providing the theory part and keeping it interesting, and Gizznit ran an excellent roam, regardless of the scarcity of targets. A *huge* thank you to the scouts, I think they were the most educational part of the whole evening - how to provide good intel in a succint yet valuable way, how to stay calm in hostile space, all very impressive. Constructive criticism...not much to be honest. I think the initial attack on the big gate camp could have been handled better - it was all very confusing in that first contact with the enemy. I found it almost impossible to select a target due to a combination of lag and the constant changes in ships viewable, but after I returned in a new ship I removed friendlies from the PvP tab and it was much better (that might be in the wiki Overview setup instructions already, my bad if it is). The lack of targets was undoubtedly partly a result of the meltdown of IRON, but I think Agony classes are becoming victims of their own success...who wants to be roam in those regions on the night of a class? Still, we found a fair few, and I even managed to get a killmail for a pod - go me! !lol I'm looking forward to passing on my new found knowledge to my corp mates, and can't wait for a Wolfpacks class - please don't leave it too long guys! So thanks again to all in Agony - it was the best time I've had in Eve so far. KL

It was a great class, and especially the practical and roam were superb. I will agree with the comments that some of the things in the pre-course material were repeated, but I didn't think it was that much. The roam was great, getting podded is no big deal. If anything, it teaches new players that getting podded is a fact of life in EVE. Sooner or later its going to happen. The free Hurricane was hilarious. Who ejects from a fully rigged Hurricane? I guess he must have had some +5 or Halo implants on. Like many above me, I'll be back for other BASICs and eagerly awaiting the next wolfpacks class. -Nel

Definitely a really cool experience. Access to the Wiki material alone was worth the 10 mil, but experience roaming through lowsec with a real PvP fleet under a seasoned commander was just cool. That, and watching a swarming mass of frigates tear through battleships and whatnot in seconds. Might drop in on this again as an alumni sometime, and I'll definitely be looking into other classes in the future.

Very good class. Epic roam. There was more adrenalin and tension in roaming with a pack through 0.0 for half a day than I've found in a year of carebearing. And this on - according to the pros - a QUIET night. I'd played with scan probes, but using the directional scanner was brand-new to me. (didn't know about the F11 system map indicator for it) OK the darn thing is useful after all! Any quibbles? Umm, remind the students "in class" to post ONLY kills to the killboard. I read the "FAQ After the class" in the forum too late. oops.

Indeed a great experience, as was mentioned by almost everyone the Scouts were absolutely fantastic, if anyone paid just a little attention to there work it would be in itself a learning part of the course, the instructors did also a great job, very patient and very comfortable with any subject even if they were not sure on some area, they did provide with an answer every single time. The Roam was good also, FC did great job “hopping” us around from system to system and coordinating the scouts all in order to find us some targets, which they did and gave us what we wanted all along. I will be back again and definitely will take all your courses, thank you guys so very much to share your knowledge with everyone.
