One thing to point out that I don't think has been mentioned:
When I signed up for COV-OPS I was there f5-ing along with the rest of us from the git-go. The problem is, when I'd post an application to class, it took over 6 tries -- all but the last were rejected, and in each case I was sent back to the home page, so I'd have to re-enter the ENROLLMENT section, re-enter the thread, and try again.
This almost certainly has to do with the dismally slow telecommunications in my locale. However...
If a 50-man course signs up in 1 minute, it's nearly a mathematical certainty I'll never make it into that class no matter how many times the class runs -- and neither will anyone else with slower telecommunications (I'm .75m up and 3m down -- supposedly -- but that's just plain linespeed. Through the CO or switch is probably where we lose a lot of time). So... My process would be:
1. Sign up and likely find that response has already been used, so my message doesn't post.
2. Get kicked to the Home page.
3. Get back to Enrollment
4. Enter the signup thread and....
Too late -- over a minute.
I've talked to my ISP. The problem isn't them (and I concur by the tracert output) -- it's the shared infrastructure that all ISP's in my area use. So changing providers won't help. Their only suggestion was that I get a T1... And they aren't certain that'll do it either.
If I were the only one that faces this problem, I'd either work it out or walk away politely. But I'm not. Considering the international nature of this game, there are lots and lots of people with response problems similar to mine or worse. I'm guessing I'm in the lower 35% but not a lot worse. So others must be experiencing this problem too, I believe, and as class demand increases, this problem will exacerbate.
I have no problems at all with being here at the right time, being careful about only using an official thread, realizing I won't always get in, knowing I have to do it right -- no sweat. But as enrollment increases, it's outpacing the lower end of the Inet infrastructure. It'd be nice to find a way that doesn't permanently exclude one because the telco infrastructure isn't responsive enough.

Sanpaku
