I have been a tad busy the last few days with the new baby, and let one of my accounts expire. I bought a GTC today and reactivated it to find the skill training time in EVEMon and EVE aligned perfectly, even though the account had been inactive for 2 days. i.e. I managed to get 2 days of ghost training! Not intentional, but I now wish I had just left it as I had 12 days to go on Astrometrics V! Just wonder if anyone else has seen this behaviour?

There's a 3-day grace period. You can theoretically get 33 free training days per year. (11 months, with 3 days between each expiry/activation).
