Thanks so much for the course and the roam. I've been on and off again slacker carebear, but Malthraz's stories about Agony made me want to get into PVP. You guys were awesome, I'm sorry that real life had to drag me away from the roam early. You'll definitely see me again on Alumni roams if there's any way for an Australian to be there.

Would just like to say thankyou for a truly awsome roam, most fun i've had in the 3years in this game. As always the Agony guys and gals were on top form, was a real pleasure to fly ( and die a few times ) with you.

Look forward to doing it again soon.

Wow! I've only really been playing the game for about 3-4 months (I started back in December of 2010, but quit for about a year after a month or so), and this is the MOST fun I've had with this game so far! I'm completely hooked on PvP! Kudos to Caldak for the awesome FCing - your ability to be patient while at the same time demanding of your fleetmates is awesome and makes the experience great. Highlights of the night - the Thanny kill (obviously ) and running into the TEST bombers that we annihilated - some of the guys there were people that got me started in Eve! I even had problems targeting the Arazu because he was personally blue to me! I'm looking forward to taking as many classes as I can and flying with all of you again soon! Declan

For Mangala - I saw you within 10km and thought "fuck the primary" :D You welped us first time around anyway but seems Vora got away second time due to GG having him blued up :P Was fun.

Hey, that was a PERSONAL blue setting... from a prior roam ... some fight or another... well I fixed that problem now anyways ;) Hey, we got Mangala at least! ;)

It was wonderful :)

Ganked had a blast as ever, and the holdouts decided to make their stand and face what ever you brought. Odd being on the other side of a frig gang with a boatload of ewar :)

I had a great night so thanks Agony, students, alumni & all opponents. My earlier experience only consisted of close encounters but no one ever took a fight that wasn't an obvious win, so I'm pleased to se that isn't the case for everyone in eve. I'm gonna try to share my thoughts and issues from the night: First off, I had massive issues with breaking my gate cloak. First few fights by gate I tried to target an enemy right from cloak, wich of course didn't work since I was cloaked. To break cloak I apparently tended to double click the opponent in overview, but that didn't make me accelerate towards him. So I missed out of some action desperately trying to break cloak by double clicking, simple but major issue. My biggest overall issue is navigation and orientation. To much stuff happening and it was really hard to keep track of normally simple things such as, Im I being shot at? Where is my target and what direction is he moving? Who is shooting me? Did my target die? I'm about to die, where should i warp? Wait, I'm inside the bubble? Where's the nearest bubble edge? And it certainly seemed a lot of students had the same issues, I guess this is the hardest part of pvp. But I also noticed personal improvement during the night so I guess it's all about training. I would have appriciated if Agony was a little bit harder on com usage on the students, I guess its a fine line but people talking or making statements sometimes made me unsure weather it was agony information or a drunk student :) It made it a little bit harder to pick up what was important since I don't recognize the voices or accents. Some things I would bring to next roam that didn't seem important before this roam: *Navigation V *Evasive maneuvering V *Printed maps (I really thought I would have time to follow or steps in null by browser window and F10) I'm very pleased and hope we get to play around more, thanks again!

What a great night of whelping! And congrats on that carrier! Always a great thing for a BASIC class. :)

Before the first engagement on the 6e- gate someone mentioned that Agony wouldn't throw their frig gang into our 140+ Amarr kitchensink gang but many, including Mang, knew Caldak better... that he wouldn't shy away to give his students a death lesson in the first minutes if only enough blood is involved...
I actually had too much qualms to shoot on students who were this outshipped/outgunned/outnumbered so I stayed away from this massacre and let the Harbis and Arbis do the bloodwork (with my anti-Warrior fit it would have been km whoring anyway). Softie, I know...

If that's any consolation: shortly afterwards RnK got us... again.
When I crossed through their bubble to the gate I decloaked their Sabre, reported it back and even hinted of the possibility of a RnK thingie but my (admittedly slow) English totally drowned in the Mumble chaos. I only heard "warp", "cyno" and then Mang's hysterical laughter, so I knew that RnK could put a third victory mark on their Holy Handgranate

In the second engagement we were waiting for a Pizza gang to jump to us into B-D but instead an Agony skirmisher appeared on the grid. Mang let us decide whether to evade or take a last stand. We chose the latter. So it was actually unneccessary to send in the alumni bait squad to pull us off the gate or to make us jump after them (into a bubble, no doubt) as we were staying to do a Custer. This time I had no qualms to shoot but BT put a good jam on me. So flew out and then back into the furball at the end of a jam cycle hoping the next cycle would fail or BT would switch to a more important target. Didn't happen. After the second "lazy 8" in and out of the furball I was finally unjammed (BT died). Just when I started back the first wave of that Testie blob was rolling over you .... ooops.

Hey, that was a PERSONAL blue setting... from a prior roam ... some fight or another... well I fixed that problem now anyways...

I love you too :P ...and I think that was because of the april 1st roam.

Talking 'bout reciprocity: during the fight, in our Mumble, "Hey! That's Othran! PRIMARY ORTHRAN!" It wasn't me, I swear! B)

PS: on 3 ocassions I jumped thru a gate and landed next to Child's frozen corpse. That was almost spooky how Child's corpse haunted me across Syndicate  From now on I'll fear him as the "Exequror Ghost of Syndicate"...

Heh I had fair warning - at least you killed Akjon first :D

I really wish I'd undocked to take a look at your gang when you went through Stacmon earlier. We were under the distinct impression you were a frigate gang until someone got eyes on you

Originally there was an ECM night on schedule but it was changed to anything Amarr BC and under (we even had a Battle Bestower!) two weeks ago. Maybe it had something to do with Somer Blink sponzoring some prizes vOv.
That it was a surprise actually surprises me since an Agony member was part of our fleet from the start. Also IIRC we were harassed by some Agony bombers well ahead of our clash.

I had a blast in this class, thanks! The RvB gang recorded their roam and posted it to It's super interesting to see the perspective from the enemy side. You can see the fight they stomped us, the fight where they lost all those juicy wrecks for us to loot and the last fight where we stomped them. Hydra fleets are AMAZING when it's not an even-up fight--frigates can definitely hit above their weight class.

Maybe Agony should offer a class on how to report intel and how to deduce fleet setups from mails :)

I can confirm that it was me who killed your bestower filled with booze with a bombing run earlier in the evening :)
I made the fail assumption that caldak knew the type of fight he was getting into :(

To break cloak I apparently tended to double click the opponent in overview, but that didn't make me accelerate towards him. So I missed out of some action desperately trying to break cloak by double clicking, simple but major issue.

I usually click on the target, then press the appropriate shortcut key to either align or orbit then press the appropriate module keys (F1-F4 etc., or use mouse).

Situational Awareness :) It's something that comes with time and practice. One thing that I find helpful is keeping my tactical overview on at all times. You don't need to be in a fight to practice navigation and orientation - as you are flying about doing your normal day-to-day Eve stuff, whether it is missions or traveling, focus on what you see around you, the situation you are in, etc., ... imagine those mission rats are pvp targets for example. Feel free to come as an alumni to our next Basic class roam - you'll find your awareness is already improved :)

I would have appriciated if Agony was a little bit harder on com usage on the students, I guess its a fine line but people talking or making statements sometimes made me unsure weather it was agony information or a drunk student :) It made it a little bit harder to pick up what was important since I don't recognize the voices or accents.

The students were excellent on voice coms, really excellent. Voice coms can be especially challenging when you have multiple scouts and skirmishers giving recon - we had 5 or 6 at one point, two of whom were new. I think they all did a great job - I don't know how Caldak can filter through and keep track of all that incoming information! It is difficult to keep track of all that information at times as a normal fleet member.

Yes, there was a small issue with one fleet member (an alumni) chiming in with a more information than was necessary... I pulled that person into a private chat and resolved the issue. I am sorry that it caused confusion for you :(

*Printed maps (I really thought I would have time to follow or steps in null by browser window and F10)

I use the Radar function of Dotlan maps - I love it! Not particularly helpful, however, when Dotlan crashes like it did around 5 hours into the roam!

Softie, I know...

You, a softie? Never... ;)

I love you too :P ...and I think that was because of the april 1st roam.

Yes - that was it! I ended up setting everyone in our gang "light blue" because I kept having multiple client crashes! That way as I logged back in I could more easily track everyone till I got back into fleet! I sure wish Eve had the ability to set "expiration dates" on our standing settings... :)

Reminds me I should create another overview setting that DOES show blues ...

So, it's been a few hours now, I may as well be the first to ask..... when's the next BASIC? *Grin*

HAHAHA!!!

The next class that we've got scheduled is an Advanced class, which will be announced within the next few days. Next Basic will be either the last weekend of May or the first weekend of June. Not definite yet. I was aiming for the last weekend of May but then Kaz reminded me that's Memorial Day Weekend and odds are good a lot of support personnel will be camping or barbecuing or other such odd planetside activities (think the slang term for it is "real life"?) so scheduling might be wacky.

I'd suggest the following practice next time you guys are on any roam. Listen to recon, listen to what the FC is saying and doing and basically 'be' the FC in your head. Helps improve your situational awareness when the FC wants you to go somewhere and you're already aligned to it. And if you lag and are a bit behind you know where to logically go instead of asking who do I warp to now? Also don't be afraid to ask in fleet chat who do I warp to if you get lost, its better to ask then to get yourself blow up. Its a learning game, takes a lot of practice and we still make tons of mistakes. Skills are not a 'huge' issue, yes they are good and they help, but besides the very basic skills you can very much own guys who are 3x your SP. Skirmish is the best role in the fleet, try to get into that as well once you clear the basic classes, it teaches you a lot as well.
