We met up on Sisi server and flew at each other practicing the flybys maneuver, then set up gate camps and took turns blowing each other up, ending with quite a nice little free-for-all fight! The gate camp practical in particular really was challenging, seeing how different camp setups worked or didn't work against a flyby fleet. A good time was had by all, thanks for all that signed up for the class! Please post your feedback, good, bad or indifferent, here!

I feel this class was set up really well. Especially that everyone got to try doing the fc'ing, as that is clearly the most difficult part. I also liked setting up the mock gatecamp. It was fun to try and figure out what did and didn't work against a bunch of flyby ships like that. I was actually a bit disappointed when we had to switch out and do the actual flybys. :P

Was great class. Every opportunity to learn and immediately put theory into practice. Plus see both sides of the engagement. Constant learning and action in a practical environment was well done. Everyone present made this an excellent experience. Thank you all.

Thanks for coming, students! I had a fun time teaching this neat tactic and I hope some of you will get to use it someday. Remember that it's easily modifiable for different ships, EWAR, etc... depending on the circumstance.

That was my first fc experience in Eve, where I tought I wouldn't be able to do it at first. You guys manage to break my thinking and showed me that it is possible for everyone to manage a squad. Thanks for that great class. You guys managed it so well that, instead of getting crazy of our mistakes, everyone make fun of the mistakes and laughed while supporting the fc ^^ The best mistake of the class I think is warping out of the combat area without warping squad :DDDDD (only self). That cracked me up so bad that I wouldn't align in time or anythink for the next 1-2 flybys ^^

Very enjoyble class. That it is essentially wholly practical, reinforces the theory very well. As has already been said, really helpful to participate on both sides of the engagement. Great teaching and encouragement from Maudite to ensure we got the most out of the class. Lots of discussion, hints, tips and tricks from everyone added to the learning experience. Thanks again to all.

...The best mistake of the class I think is warping out of the combat area without warping squad :DDDDD (only self). That cracked me up so bad that I wouldn't align in time or anythink for the next 1-2 flybys ^^

That's also what I did when we actually had targets; twice even.
Clicking warp to 0 (and leaving the squad behind) is so automatic that it happened easily once I was concentrating on where to warp to, calling a target and maybe even shooting.

Great class, very good to get a lot of hands-on experience.
Taking over squad command and FCing a little for the first time was quite the rush, good that there were no real targets at that point.

Tips and tricks that were useful to me:
  • Opening the bookmark subfolder with the flyby bookmarks in a new window (was it Dross that suggested it?).
  • The turnable piece of paper. Although next time I'll label it 'alpha' and 'beta' instead of A and B to minimise confusion.
  • I was surprised that not everyone knew that you can drag saved fittings onto the market quickbar. This will set up folders with all the modules only missing the ship itself and ammo (+scripts?).
Now to something completely different suggestions what might make the class even better:
  • Mention the possibility of clicking the 'full speed' button and then forbid everyone from using it during this class. The shortcut Ctrl+Alt+Space is essential because you want everyone focusing on their overview. Maybe also explain how to reconfigure keybinds.
  • Have some optional gate camping fits ready for those that haven't tried something like that and mention them in the class material. Maybe increase the part on countering flybys in general a bit (10-15 minutes). My first fit wasn't good for the situation and I was a bit lost at first. I blame it on having so little PvP experience.
Thanks again, Maudite 9!

Don't think I can take credit for that one Unbent. I got some advice from Fericluce and Maudite about bookmarks and their organising earlier in the afternoon prior to the class, and I recall we chatted whilst you fitted ships. But think that was someone else, unfortunately cannot recall who, during class.

So much fun!!! I know that this was not real, i.e. not on tranquility, but we got to learn so much more then just Flybys techniques. Gate camping, intercepting, It was really eye opening to see how much damage 6-10 destroyers can do in two shots. Thanks to Maudite, Greygal and the rest of the agony team that came out to play, along with some familiar faces that I seem to consistantly fly with.

Great class, learnt alot... especially the fact that i should never under any circumstances ever FC a fleet :) - appart from getting myself killed a few times due to stupid warps I also managed to warp myself off leaving everyone else behind to die :o The class was lots of fun and I can see how efficient this could be, I dont know if i'll ever see these tactics done on the main server, this isnt something Razor ever do in reallity but it might be worth getting the corp out to try it, Thanks again, Xol

Sorry - that was probably me who gave you the idea of A & B. Been a while since I did any real flybys with Agony so their terms have probably changed.

The bit of paper idea was simply because I kept getting killed (years ago) when the FC warped off the wrong squad/himself. When you've done multiple passes to pull a camp one way or the other and snipe off the fast tackle its all too easy to forget the warpout point. I just found it easier to flip the paper each time we landed on warpouts.

I have had lots of fun on an alt with flyby sniping gatecamps on the Ossogur gate in Amamake. Probably not much point in that with supercaps around but you get the idea.

I do hope this class is run more often as it should be one of the first tactics any small corp uses. Its incredibly useful even if its just for harassment.

Edit - in fact couldn't you try to deal with some of it in Wolfpacks? Ideal time for that although I know the class is already quite long.
