We will be trying something new w/ this class.

We will be attempting to present some materials in clase via a netmeeting share method.

Please go to

https://join.me

and get the client. It is free. Get it working before class or you will have to follow along a bit blindly for some of the class. This means make sure it works for you this weekend or early next week so that if it doesn't, you can work out the issues w/ join.me's tech support. Agony will not be attempting tech support for this.

All you need to do in order to test the client is click the 'SHARE' button and see if it fires up. If you get connection issues you will need to sort those before class. You DO NOT have to do the 'free trial' as the client is currently free anyway, and the room connection for you to join will be shared once in class on the 17th.

See you there.

All it does is show the screen. Unless you relinquish control of the screen to another user, you retain control. However, during class, the instructor will be in control of their own screen and all you will be doing is watching as the instructor describes the process. I've used this software now for a couple weeks at work w/ all the normal scanners and firewall alerts in place and nothing has been affected any more than a normal operation on the web. What happens is the presenter's screen is sent to a proxy on the join.me servers and is then rebroadcast to the members in the room. I guess you have the option of not installing it and falling behind the rest of the class, but there will be limited patience for folks who feel they don't need to do what we have already approved internally for use. This is likely going to be a new teaching tool for several classes so I suggest folks get used to it.

tested and approved... the screen share is a very sweet learning tool. This offers a dynamic visual level of teaching, which will be especially useful in the covops training.

Cool that you are trying this. Our corp has used this a couple of times as a teaching tool and it works very well, especially for example if trying to show someone how to use EFT.

Heya Indy - We'd love to open up the class to additional students, but we run the CovOps course with lots of time for individual practice and evaluation and the class would run too long with more participants. We hope to offer another CovOps course before too long . . . we'll announce it on the mailing list so everyone is forewarned of the sign-up times. The spots have been going pretty fast. Hope to see you next time 'round.
