Hi, I have been wondering around the galaxy, or at least it feels that way, for a week now trying to find a Corporation that will take me in and train me in the finer arts of Player vs Player combat, or even just the basics at this stage. Despite some promising conversations, I am either, not experienced enough, to experienced (though I think they only took my ISK and SP into account there) or currently skilled wrongly. I had no idea it was so hard to find a good corporation and gain training. Through a conversation with Eve U (the to experienced feedback) their RO highly recomended Agony Unleashed, so I spent hours last night, much to my wifes annoyance, reading through your wiki pages (from around 12 am to 2am on the laptop in bed....hence the annoyance),which brings me to where I am now. Needless to say, I have joined the forums and the info here is looking great. Sadly though and much to my disapointment, I see that the June training (PVP basic) is filled and the next one is scheduled for July 11th, which is actualy my birthday, and I just dont think that my wife will accept me staying in on my birthday evening to train on a game she doesnt wholey beleive is for sane people. I read that you do, on occassion, have adhoc training days, however I have also just read the post about 'Boom Months', therefore I am unsure as to the likelyhood of an adhoc training day, which then leaves only one consideration and that is that I will have to wait until August. Is it possible someone (preferably someone that arranges the events) can comment and let me know what to expect. I have returned to the game from a two year abscence and am running level 4 missions, as I was previously, and I am begining to understand why I left last time. I am not sure I can make another 3 months running missions and I am desperate to learn. Best Regards Barrak

I wish you luck getting on the PVP-BASIC course, it took me a while before I found a date that worked for me. It is worth the wait. I'm currently in the same position as you for the next stage (Wolfpacks) so I sympathise.

Go ahead and post an Application (be sure to read the instructions!) and send me your info for the class. If we like the application, we can get you in as a probationary Agony member, but you need to understand that's rare. The fact that you seem to have consumed as much of our public wiki as you could and seem to be on fire for the corp speaks well of yourself, so that will be weighed in. Also, as we're currently not recruiting except in special cases in the North American TZ, your app will definitely need to stand out if you play during those times and would be placed in that squadron. Again, post an app, but take your time, read the instructions and make a case for yourself. Your application is your first impression, make it a good one! If we like the app, we'll move forward from there.

When you say 'make an application', are you refering to an application to get myself into the June program or into the corporation? Was just about to drop you a message ingame to chat! Something else that's well worth doing in the meantime is just buying a few frigates (whatever your best racial combat frigate is), fitting them with cheap T1 fittings, going out to lowsec, and getting in a fight or three. Or thirty.

Get yourself a jump clone, update your med clone, etc. first, of course.

Heh, I'm not ingame (and rarely am these days on non-class-dates) As to the application, I mean an app for the corp itself. I won't link to the wiki page, you should be able to find that pretty easily.

yeah..... not sure what happened there. I think I refreshed to get back to the forum and it reposted! Just been watching the downloads of the movies from training....... look real fun!! I am going to read up on jump clones now as apart from the clone i have now, I dont know alot about them..... I guess thats what 2 years out of the game and mission running does to you. If I go out and practice some PvP in low sec as suggested, does that affect my security status and in turn my ability to train with/join you guys? In relation to the application page.... yeah, i got that somewhere in one of my 200 explorer tabs from last night 8O) didnt want to close them as each one had something usefull in, though, you have to be registered to see some of the pages, despite it being pre-training reading. Ummm once upon a time I would have said go for it. Even a couple of months ago. Now I think it simply isn't worth the sec hit. Anyone like to have a guess at the number of T1 frigs being used as bait in places like Eifer/Amamake etc? If you actually recognise the pilot its possible to get 1v1s that are fun, if not always fair and in those cases then yes go for it. Otherwise a good proportion of those T1 frigs/destroyers (in minnie space anyway) are not the naive innocent they appear to be

You have an option fighting in low-sec - take the sec hit or let them shoot first. Neither is a viable solution really. Sec status going down the toilet leads to more restricted gameplay. Letting them shoot first = lose if you're anywhere near equal. It is very very easy to find willing opponents though and it'd be rather fun if they made the FW areas free-fire zones to avoid the sec hit Yeah I know its exploitable but wouldn't it be lovely just letting rip in Empire areas like that and taking no sec hit. The reality of course would be wall to wall camps slaughtering anyone who came in range but the FW areas are made for high-speed roaming gangs - Ombey's maps show them up beautifully.

what about joinging the faction wars? Are you able to jump in and out of the enrolment once you have joined? I mean, can i decide to go hutning, tick a box and out I go and then decide to go mission running and untick the box? Patience never really was my strong point 8O) Barrak

You can jump in and out of FW. All you need is a 0.5 standing to the faction you want to join. In general though FW has a reputation for lagging badly and you can't earn from it. I guess if you avoid the blob then lagging might not be so bad? As far as earning goes, there are very few people who turn a profit from PvP. Pesets does FW and may be along later so he might comment?

Good point about security status. The hit for aggression in lowsec isn't too bad, but don't pod people if you value your access to hisec. Also, I'll note that at first you probably won't be doing much blowing up of other ships, so the question is moot initially. There's also flying out to 0.0 for your pew-pew, though I've found it even harder to locate a fair frigate fight that way.

Well, i haven't been online a whole lot lately, but about a month ago i've been flying with Minmatar militia and it was actually quite good; i'll might actually re-enlist after Wolfpacks on Friday. I've only seen it lag badly once or twice, rest of the time it was actually pretty smooth even in 20 vs 20 fleet fights.


The major problem with militia is that you just have fleets of random people, which means it isn't terribly organized most of the time, and FCs don't necessarily know what they are doing. Also, sometimes the enemies just decide to hug the station. Minmatar militia is kinda at war with Heretic Nation though, so there are other options. The fights you get are mostly on gates, since militia people don't tend to hang around on the belts a whole lot.


Also, you're pretty much locked out of BOTH opposing empires' hisec (Caldari and Amarr in case of Minmatar militia) - you can move around if you're fast, but you can't stay in one place for long unless you have a pretty good tank. That's only while you are in militia though, unless you do too many FW missions/plexes and get -5 standing with the enemy faction. Note, however, that there is a 24 hour "cooldown" delay when you leave militia. Or at least when your corp leaves, not sure...

As long as your sec status is above -1.9, you should be good. Below that, faction police starts trying to kill you in hisec. You get about -0.2 sec hit for every player ship you destroy. Just make sure you don't aggress the pods. You get -1.6 sec hit if you aggress a pod and it dies later. That is, even if you don't shoot it, just scram it for ransom then let it go, and someone else kills it ten minutes later, you'll still get -1.6 sec hit which GMs won't do anything about (/me had to learn that the hard way :grr:)

You get about -0.2 sec hit for every player ship you destroy.

That sounds about right for players with a low positive sec status, but unless things have changed then the higher your sec status then the bigger the hit.

This is due to sec hit being calculated as a percentage so if you're +5 then your sec hit is calculated as the difference between your current status and -10 (-9.999999 ad infinitum really) times the percentage sec hit. I can't remember what the percentage hit is - IIRC it relates to system sec status - but assume for the sake of argument that its 5%, then you'd have :

(Current sec status - (-10) ) x percentage = sec hit;

eg

(5 - (-10) ) x 0.05 = 0.75

The next kill would cause a sec hit of :

(4.25 - (-10) ) x 0.05 = 0.7125

The next would be less again :

(3.5375 - (10) ) x 0.05 = 0.676875

and so on.

Coming back from bad sec status works much the same but in reverse - big improvements initially then it gets harder.

That's the way it used to work certainly and if it doesn't work that way now I'd appreciate someone correcting me....

lol. thanks guys for the feedbacks and warnings. I am unsure as to my future at present, as I have applied to join Agony Unleashed, but I know competition is tough for a very limted number of positions. So on that basis, and hopefully not to appear as a pessimist, I'lll avoid any 'self teaching' PvP exersizes . I think the word 'teaching' implies that you have to know something from which to teach.......... Hope to see some of you ingame at some point. I dont suppose any of you hang out in 0.9 sec do you? Whereabouts are you as I have a JC in Heimatar, and another in Sinq and another in Metropolis if you want a bit of practice? I'm waiting out dwell time on leaving existing corp before I apply in-game to Agony so anytime in the next day or so would be fun.

PVP-BASIC is stunningly good fun. There's not too much information to absorb and there's so many of you that the chances of you getting popped is fairly low. Getting your name in the first 50 so you're on the course is probably the hardest part.....
