What has been done before (I think I read it somewhere) is that you don't meet up in the starter location as that's usually in high sec, but listen to the class and ask your questions while in a different station. Then, when the class heads out into 0.0, you join up with the HYDRA fleet.

If you have an alt character with sufficiently high security status, you can attend the class with that alt and switch to your low security character when the class heads out. It's a good idea to be at the class for the practical portion because some of the techniques discussed during the lecture are practiced in lowsec, before heading out to 0.0

One perfectly viable option is to use an alt for the high-sec part of the class. The section in high sec is almost all theory and manoeuvring; the only mod which is likely to get activated during this section (other than maybe the exercise on weapon cycling, for which the actual type of mod doesn't matter) is an afterburner, which you should be able to fit with an out of the box alt. Find out from the class's instructor where the first lowsec system will be, and arrange for your main to meet the class there. Edit: Damn that ninja mortis =P

If you do decide to meet the fleet part way through, make sure you're fleeted up in advance. We don't want a friendly fire incident when a red flashy ship suddenly shows up the system with a bunch of trigger happy students. The little purple gang icon should save you, but make sure the FC/instructor knows you're joining. No-one should open fire without the instructor's direction, but red flashy things make people jumpy.

I wouldn't say jumpy. After a few hours of listening to a seminar while spinning in station, plus a bit of orbiting and the like in low-sec - our students have reached a proper peak of bloodthirsty zeal. It's hard enough to stop people shooting neutrals who are re-joining fleet, let alone ones that flash red.

I think the term I'd select would be trigger-happy... 8)

Calling it Primary, so you don't have to.

lol - the average lifespan of someone trying that in a frigate is measured in seconds.

Just let the FC know and he'll warn the fleet, it's much easier than running back to a station for a new ship.

If the class admin is on the ball, it's not an issue, you're in the fleet long before we see you.
