I wouldn't anticipate another WOLFPACKS until next month, due to the tournament preparations taking up a large amount of Agony's time right now. When we do see one, though, it will as always be announce here and ingame on the mailing list.

Out of curiosity, how many students do you enroll in the Wolfpacks class, and how fast does it fill up? The Basic course always filled up way before I read the email, is the Wolfpacks the same? Thanks.

The size of any class depends on the instructor teaching it. We can accept up to 100 students in the case of a mega-class like we did in December. Slots in a WOLFPACKS tend to be even more hard fought-over than BASIC (and an order of magnitude more for Advanced classes), so be on the ball and check in often. I would anticipate a WOLFPACKS class announcement sometime towards the end of this month, depending on how the tournament goes.

I had a really great time in PVP Basic yesterday, and had a quick question about Wolfpacks. Is there a particular gun that you'd recommend training towards? I'd like to try to get to T2 on whatever guns (or missiles?) work best. Since it sounds like it'll be a couple of weeks or more till the next Wolfpacks course, and since it's easy to fly any race's destroyers, I'd appreciate any tips on which to train up since there will be plenty of time.

Since it sounds like it'll be a couple of weeks or more till the next Wolfpacks course, and since it's easy to fly any race's destroyers, I'd appreciate any tips on which to train up since there will be plenty of time.

Well, it really depends on how you want to fly, and the sort of role you want to play. As important as Hydra is in a BASIC class, it's a thousand times more so in WOLFPACKS, simply because of the limited midslots in a dessie gang. So, if you want to be a close-in warp scrambler/webber, I'd start looking towards blasters (Catalyst) or autocannons (Thrasher). The bonuses of destroyers, however, seem to point towards their being more useful at range (+50% optimal for all classes and +10% per level to tracking speed). So, I might look towards fitting for what we call "high speed, long range," or HSLR.

The Cormorant and Catalyst both have nice range bonuses for Destroyers skill levels, the Coercer gets the usual Amarr bonus to capacitor usage, and the Thrasher has a small but noticable damage bonus. The Thrasher is the fastest, but they're all within 30m/sec range of each other there. My personal pick is the Thrasher, fit with tech 2 280mm Howitzers. You can figure out the mids and lows, but suffice to say you'll need some speed and fast-locking capabilities. A tracking computer wouldn't hurt, either. My setup hits at 50k, and alphas with Tremor S at about 800 unresisted. With Republic Fleet EMP, it's more like 1200 damage unresisted, at about 20k. Yes, you can one-shot MWDing interceptors with this.

So, moral of the story (sorry for the novel) you want to fit for the ship's bonuses and consider how you're going to use it in combat. Close in, or at range? Will you need blistering speed or balls-out DPS? Is a devastating one-hit-wonder alpha strike from half a grid away your goal? These are the kinds of questions you have to ask yourself as you fiddle with EFT and EVEMon.

As Weeks said. However, specifically for the Thrasher, a 280 setup is fitting intensive both grid & cpu wise. In a wolfpack, we need those midslots for (CPU-intensive) EWAR, and you just need a few ships to hit out to 50k or further. Therefore, for wolfpacks, I'd say the 250s is a good middle ground. You still hit hard and far, but you also have room for afterburner and ewar without grid/cpu fitting mods. For ammo, i'd bring Tremor for range, EMP for damage and perhaps Phased plasma specifically for Amarr Tech 2 ships (with its thermal resistance problems). Fit 2 damagemods, Afterburner and you have 2 midslots for whatever EWAR is needed. As for fitting to maximize each ships strengths specifically in the wolfpacks context, i'd say: Catalyst: Short range damagedealer using AB, scram or web, small Ion Blasters/Void (bring Null iot be able to engage BS outside 6 km) Thrasher: Medium range fast locker/Alpha strike using AB, Sensorbooster, Point, 250 Arty/EMP (bring Tremor for semi-sniping range) Coercer: Medium range damagedealer using AB, medium Pulse/Scorch (bring Multifreq for that extra close in DPS) Cormorant: Long range sniper/Fleet EWAR support using AB, 3 EWAR mods (tracks, damps, ship scanners, painters, ECM (if no ECM support ships)), 125 Rails/Spike (Bring Antimatter/Void for that extra close in DPS)

I understand you have a busy life, but it would be nice if we get some time to do the readings as it is expected from us that we have read all the material prior to the class, and have taken al the neccecary preperations as described in the readings. Or am I the only one with no acces due to some technical difficulty?
