Compiled list of known features in Darkfall
Skill based system with over 1,000 skills and spells. Like EVE but increase skill through use instead of time. New skills bought from npcs or learned from other players.
*Wearing armor affects running and swimming speed and casting time. Non-reflective clothing or clothing that blends in makes you harder to see at distance
*Sufficient climbing skill allows you to climb up into trees or scale up cliffs or boulders to attack from above or traverse terrain difficult terrain that others may not be able to
*Real time combat (first person when shooting or casting, 3rd person when using a melee weapon). Mounted combat, underwater combat, naval ship battles, castle-city sieges.
*Player driven economy. Player controlled territories. Player built cities. Player driven world.

Awesome locations to build clan cities such as on top of a glacier, have a waterfall hiding its entrance, be built on several levels on the side and in caverns inside a mountain, have secret underwater entrances, on a remote island...that kind of thing.

*Mobs spawn dynamically and not in the exact same place. If one area of mobs goes unattended for too long then the mobs there start to grow in force and power requiring players to "police" the mobs in their territories if they want to prevent them from growing too strong.
*Clan cities can choose to allow different kinds of players to respawn at their city, allow npc guards to attack certain players, tell npc guards to go out on patrols ect. Visual and Auditory queues (OMG you'll actually want to have the sound on!)
No radar, no floating names above players, and no highlighting of players requires you to rely on visual and audio queues such as the glimmer of steal from a player's weapon, smoke from a recent battle, dust kicked up recently by horses or other mounts, rumbling of mounted players approaching, rustling of grass of a player sneaking up on you PVP tactics in Darkfall (They did a good job combating "blobs")
Friendly fire allows a small group of coordinated players to fight a larger group
*Using terrain and weather to your advantage
*Advancing in formations with your front line guarding with shields for those behind. Clans in Darkfall
Declaring war on other clans, diplomacy tools, clan management tools, built-in clan url and message boards Player killing and alignment
Killing a player of your race or race allied with your decreases your alignment (like EVE sec status) with that race/your race unless your clan is at war with his clan.
*Killing a player of an enemy race or a player of your own race with negative alignment (like security status) increases your alignment If alignment is decreased too much, npcs of your race/allied races will attack you effectively locking you out of npc cities and trade hubs though its possible to live on your own and you can always live in your clan's city if it has one.

Cool, been looking for a game that incorporated my first love which is FPS =)
Unfortunatly (for me) this is almost exactly the opposite reaction I had when I saw the demo.
FPS and/or 'twitchy' style combat just doesnt lend itself properly to the perpetual MMO style world IMO.
Meh, could just be that Im old, slow, and have no desire to try to compete in a world domanated by 15 yr old kids able to play 15 hours a day on $8K machines hooked to mommy and daddys t1 line.
Hope you guys have fun with it tho....

Darkfall will not have a lot of 15 yr old kids playing it for long. Why? Because of the death penalty causing you to drop all your equipment when you die. The same penalty that keeps kids and timid adults away from EVE. Yes Darkfall will have avatars and be an action game, but Darkfall is going to be a hard and brutal game that the youngsters won't have as much fun with as say TF2, CS, or BF2.

I think it isn't so much kids playing as people that are immature playing. You can be 56 and still act like a 13 year old dork.
My point actually has little to do with attitude, its about the fact that youth and a superior interface make far too much difference in a game based on 'twitchy' combat.
Yes you can be old and still act 13, but in this type of enviroment at 42 with failing eyesight, almost half a centurys wear and tear on the body, a family, and a comp perpetually 6 to 12 or more months behind the tech curve , the odds of {me} finding enjoyment are slim.
Dont get me wrong, I'm not trying to say its a bad game, just that most people I know my age, simply dont have the hand/eye coordination, equipment and/or time investment required to be competitive in such an enviroment, so for me its disapointing that they went with this style of combat because the rest of the game looks very interesting.
