New Art Is Losing My Interest

While some of the EVE redesigned ships are more tolerable than others, I'm having a real hard time with the new Moa, Tristan, Condor, Stabber, Scorpion and probably most of the redesigns coming down the road.

It's not nostalgia. It's a difference in aesthetic preference. I'm a big fan of Chris Foss, Peter Elson, and John Berkley. I tend to like dynamic asymmetric designs, which is why I started playing this game to begin with. It was really the imaginative art that caught my interest most of all. I especially liked the cold military, faceless, off-balance design of caldari ships that left no room for human sympathy. But now all of those designs are being swept under the carpet.

I'm not oppossed to the new designs, but I'd like the option to buy back the old ones. So here is a shamless effort to drum up support for my hopeless little F&I thread.

If you want to keep the current Moa design, the best I can promise is to not actively oppose your thread :P

Damned hideous thing, that one.

Well, googling the artists in the OP was a wonderful nostalgic trip back to my old Omni magazines.  Very cool.

As for the F&I proposal, I think I agree.  I think the new hulls look great, but hate to get them at the cost of losing the old concepts.  I think they could have beautified these hulls without losing the asymmetry that makes them distinctive.  Going full symmetric and aggressive styling is pandering to the LCD...but I guess that's what the entertainment industry is mostly about :(

Ah, OMNI. Introduced me to Harlan Ellison, William Gibson.

Nice pull.

have to agree with the OP.

never understood this concept of being ugly, its space ships not barbie online... or is it? :P

always thought the whole concept of the way things were was a little bit better.

however over the last few years I have heard some strange comments like.. I'm not flying that its ugly... wish these ships were like Amarr..

have so many screens up that the ships could just be a cube and wouldn't even notice the difference.

the push to symmetry is dull .. I like the asymmetric ships .. Condor .. booh .. Moa .. booh ..

Even the typhoon will be symmetrical and even more of a flying coffee can by the time summer is over ..

We'll always have the Majestic Raven. And let's not forget that ugly little morsel the Bantam!

Thanks for reminding me of William Gibson, my older brother had a book called Burning Chrome that had a collection of his short stories gathered into one book. Just found a pdf of the short story by the same name here.

Also, thank you to everyone who jumped in and literally doubled my support in one day. I was shocked.
