So, remember the Occulus Rift demo at E3 that was just about the coolest thing you've ever seen? CCP are making it into a game!

Nothing we haven't seen from E3 in the trailer I don't think, but it's exciting for it to get a name and a date.

Space flight sim set in Eve with (presumably) integration into the Eve world? WITH an Occulus rift?

I feel like 6lepp after a good tweedcats fleet!

If it would get integration on launch I think they would have made that public knowledge... I doubt it will be integrated, at least on launch. It may very well be down the line, though...

Still it looks amazing and I'm a bit upset I didn't get to try on at Fanfest.

Can you just imagine integration?

You in a Nyx: "Okay, engage primary... guys, what are- ENGAGE THE PRIMARY! FOR FUCKS SAKE, STOP SHOOTING EACH OTHER!"

This looks amazing, but I highly doubt that it will be integrated into the main Eve world. Maybe eventually, as in several years down the line, right now I just hope it has multiplayer within its own contained system. That would be epic. Either way, I'm getting it.

I'm thinking "integration" in the same manner as whatever that fps is called is integrated, not literally launching people out of your Nyx. Although the carnage that would unleash would be fucking hilarious.

I doubt we'll see any kind of integration at launch. But who knows...

If they did want to integrate it onto the server, I could see it being feasible by doing it in much of the same manner that DUST has been. Valkyrie would have it's own designated parts of space that they could be fielded in that allows it to interact with DUST players, maybe by having areas like orbital stations as conquest points and the like. I could even see it being put into EVE by having large nullsec alliances bring in their own Valkyrie barges (for lack of a better name)--things that are similar to DUST's war barges--and have Vaklyrie players duke it out for control of areas/complexes/stations/sov. Make it so that only drones and frigates can engage Vaklyrie players, and Valkyrie players can engage anyone.

But yeah, I get the feeling is going to feel more arcade-y, which I don't mind at all.

I dunno Cole. The ping from players who are far from the server would probably mean they couldn't hit a thing.

I used to play FPS games (ran several public servers on Barrysworld, for those old enough to remember them) on dial-up so even for UK servers it was 100ms+ Played on US servers happily enough on latencies of 250ms.

The latency (ping) isn't the issue with well written network code*, its variations in latency which usually cause major issues. Eg - if your ping is stable then to a large extent the server can ameliorate the latency through prediction, but when your ping starts bouncing around then you're usually screwed.

Will be interesting to see what, if anything becomes of this.

*I don't believe CCP currently have the expertise to do this well, not on the basis of what I've seen in Dust514.

Today's word is :

Ill probably give it a go regardless.
