Hi.  A few questions...

1. What are the main fleet comps?
2. Is there a roam every night or planned or just the random and... "Hey there is 5+ people on and a FC... lets do a roam?"

3. (Understanding that PVP is not an isk making option.) How does your scouts/ecm earn any loot if they are at optimal or next system?

4. Do you require only mains or do you allow trialist to use alt/sub-main.  (Sometimes WH life can be a bit boring.  More like alot of times.)

Roigon (Hi you lurker!) answered your questions pretty much spot on, I'll just add a bit to them.

1. While we do have a few "standard" fleet comps, you can always fly skirmish, jams, logi, scout, or some other role if you don't have the skills and/or ships to fly the main fleet comp.  Most of our internal gangs are very flexible, "Short range shield cruisers" or "Assault frig of your choice," "Let's go out in long range armor whatever..." regardless of the gang, there is ALWAYS a need for skirmishers (specialized scout/tackle role flying interceptor).  ECM support is usually welcome on most gangs, and logistics can be useful quite often, also.  A common sort-of mistake I see new members make a lot is trying to flying everything all the time, this tends to lead to a lot of unnecessary losses since they are still getting the hang of flying in nullsec, flying with us, getting to know us, etc.  I usually recommend that new members pick two or three favorite hulls, one or two favorite fleet roles, and just stick with that for the first 2-4 weeks, till you get the hang of us.  In other words, concentrate on the role (or roles) you want to fly or want to learn to fly, more than the fleet comp.  When you specialize in a few roles, there is a place for you in nearly any fleet comp.

On #3, Roigon answered it nearly perfectly - and yes, Roigon, we still give loot to those who lost ships after battles :)  The best advice I can give is to balance isk making and cost-effective flying.  I spend almost zero time on isk making - when I log into the game, I want to spend my time making explosions, not staring at an asteroid, hauling PI, analyzing the market, etc.  So I tend to set aside some time every now and then (usually a week every month or so) where I will concentrate on fattening the wallet hardcore, then just float off that isk till the wallet is low again.   I also try to take advantage of the occasional opportunity to really bankroll my wallet when those occur - like for example, when they announced the battleship changes, I made a bunch of Dominix's before the change (at a cost of about 62-65 million each), sold some of them as the market spiked up to 100-110 million (clearing 1.2 billion), and am sitting on the rest, which I will sell as I need funds over the next, oh, probably a year.  As I also fly VERY cheap (my average ship loss is 12 million isk), the isk I already made means I won't have to think too much about isk making for a long time.

One thing I do recommend to people considering applying is to make sure you have enough isk to fund your pvp for at least 2 or 3 months before you join Agony, that way you can concentrate on making explosions and getting to know us.  Struggling with isk at the same time you are getting used to nullsec makes for a less enjoyable experience.

On #4: This is a question best explained by your recruiter, but yes, Agony is a corp of mains.  We want your focus to be on Agony. To be more specific, it's not about the character, it's about the person behind the character - we want YOU flying with us fulltime, on whatever character you want, the character isn't who is joining Agony, the person behind the character is joining us.   Leaving alts in industrial/NPC corps is perfectly fine, but leaving alts in another PVP corporation (especially one we may shoot at!) is not acceptable.  Spending most of your time on a character flying with others, and only logging onto your Agony character when there is something "interesting" going on, is also not acceptable.  Hope that makes sense.

Oh and one final note:  Echo squad best squad!! :P

What you do for yourself dies with you, what you do for others is immortal.

Hi.  I wanted to introduce myself since I am semi-new to Eve and very interested in joining a corp like yours but USTZ is "not hiring" at this moment...

Earlier, you mention that a new recruit should focus on roles?  (And if you dont mind if I play out this scenario since it will be a bit more personalized.)

1. I have a max leadership toon but it is still training its core skills and then on to weapons/ship.  Will, the leadership skills play a role in a small gang if I am not in command ships?  I ask this because it looks like you killboard has everything smaller than battleship and the rare battlecruiser.  Well it still have a use?

2. I am or want to focus on ECM and that will lead me to Caldari ships but I would like to keep the Amarr command ships in my future view.  Would you recommend just skilling/maxing everything >Caldari BC and then go up the chain with Amarr?

3. Somewhere else in the forum, it mentions that the "new recruit" should select a specfic type of weapon system and max that versus multiple race weapons... but if your gangs are a specific type of ship, wont you need to be able to fly all 4 races and both armor and shield?

Overall, without asking a new recruit to "train this or that" what ships would you recommend "the recruit" to train for other than ECM? (Since, Im specifically interested in ECM.)  Or should I reword it and say what "roles" does a new recruit should look into to make the best of their time in Agony?

We really like people that skirmish in interceptors. The lessons you learn while doing it is the base of fcing. Where the fleet should go, what they are flying, positions etc.

I have a question if you don't mind.

I have been considering applying for Echo squad, my question is: If you are on holiday, or break from University, Are you allowed to x up to fly with Americans or Europeans if you are awake during their hours?

The squadrons are purely in place for some basic admin - you can fly with all Agony all the time, and just the mere thought of someone calling "Ok, all Charlie guys go to bed now, Echo's starting to fly..." gives me a crazy grin...

Hah, alright, that makes a lot of sense.

I wasn't sure how the Squads would work, since the recruitment for other squads were full.

But thanks.

They won't tell you, it's a bit of a dark secret but actually the in-fighting between squads is horrible. It's like the navy, airforce and marines. Obviously alpha squad is the best squad, but this just annoys the other two squads so they tend to gang-up on alpha squad. They will also deny this fact quite vehemently, claiming that in fact THEIR squad is best squad. Which is of course folly at best.

Especially the guys and girls in Echo squad. They can often be seen mingling with the other squads. People like greygal and toran were the worst offenders of this when I still flew with agony, which should be no big surprise for the people who have attended PVP-U classes and seen them in action. It's like this is all just some (video) game to them, just flying at whatever time they choose, logging in whenever they feel like. It's madness I tell you, madness. Like the rules don't apply to them. Like the choice of squad is just some vague indication of what timezone you mostly fly in. Don't be fooled by it, don't let them just drag you into having fun, there are rules to be followed damnit.

I laughed harder than i should at this.  :D

Do you recommend training in one or two races?  One for shield and then another for armor?  Do you have suggestions?  Caldari/Amarr... Minmatar/Gallente?

My toon is a max leadership skilled... is there a need for command ships in your comps?  Since I thought you guys are pretty much user cruiser or below?   Or am I totally wrong?

We have gangs from frigs to hacs to battleships. We usually use a t3 booster alt. Train to have fun mate. I suggest minmatar because the gunnery skills can be used on gallente.

Skills to have 5:
Advanced weapons upgrade.
Thermodynamics.
Drone interfacing.

These skills are useful to almost all ships.

Since you're interested in ECM, train for Caldari -- max skilled Griffin, Kitsune, Blackbird, Falcon etc. is great. Work on missile skills because that naturally compliments Caldari, but allows for easy cross training later into Minmatar (e.g. Bellicose, Cyclone, Typhoon) and to a small extent Amarr (Sacrilege, Legion). While you're working on those skills, you can play with smaller ships like the Manticore, Corax, Raptor and Crow, Kestrel, Caracal, and work your way up. As previously mentioned, there's almost always a place for skirmishers and ECM. Most of our doctrines have a place for alternative ships, just make sure you know how to be useful to the fleet. Work to understand the utility of the composition and make yourself useful rather than sitting on the sidelines saying, "all I've got is a grififn and you guys are in kiting cruisers so sorry I can't join in this one."

I recommend training them all eventually; but to start you usually get more in EVE by specializing in a smaller niche.  If you try to train everything you'll probably quit before you reach the 4 or 5 year mark where you can actually fly every sub-capital ship with nearly level 5 skills.  I started with gallente frigate 5 and moved on to inteceptors and destroyers before cross training winmatar.

Obviously you recognize some overlap in the weapons systems.  Amarr & gallente use drones.  Caldari & gallente use hybrid turrets.  Caldari and minmatar use missiles.  All races use turrets; and all races use missiles.  But Caldari tend to focus more on missiles than the other races.

Before focusing skills on any individual ship; I suggest spending as much time as you can getting "core" skills.  If you have to choose between small blaster specialiation 4 and surgical strike 4 you should do surgical strike first.  It is a "core" gunnery skill that improves your performance with all turrets; not just 1 weapon system.  Similarly mechanic and engineering skills tend to apply broadly to all ships you fly.  These are always worth training.

Command ships aren't very popular for us; Tech 3 cruisers provide better bonuses and are easier to train for and more survivable due to nullifier & cloak.  As far as what we fly though; we fly everything.  Obviously we can afford to lose a lot more cruiser than battleships, so you will more often see us in a cruiser.

But we try to practice what we preach.
"Fly what you can afford to lose."

Why should you join agony, because you will never ever know what true enjoyment is like, until you experience the Thrills and good times of how good this Corp is.
Not only will you learn how to actually PVP, but you will gain The wisdom and a better understanding of the mechanics of EVE.
Sign up boys and girls, and come play and have heaps of fun , with some of the best people you will ever meet within the eve community.

Seriously, though, what's the re-up policy if/when i come back? Will need to get grounded in game again, but do I need to fill out a forum application? Can Carver be my mentor? Is Rake still a towel?

Please fill out an application and you won't need a mentor unless you want one. Rake is sadly absent. Would love to see him back.

Fight them, sure.

Hammers, the real Taranis master! I was looking up my stats for when i last logged in (6 years ago), and I can still remember Hammers engaging people a system or two away while we were busy mopping up a skirmish, and after everything is all said and done he chimes in "so I'm still in 6-Z engaging this cruiser, are you on your way?".... "Hammers that was 10 minutes ago, you're still there!?"

I've been rolling the idea around in my head of asking Agony if they might include Red Cabal in their alliance. My corporation is anemically small, having only myself and my wife as the two most active members (everyone in Red Cabal are people I know from outside the EvE universe), but this corporation that I hold is something I've been looking to develop further. As an ally I fear I would not have much to bring to the table other than that great attitude you mentioned. But having flown with Agony in their PvP classes as many times as I could, I have realized that flying with Agony is what I want to do. I'm just so very reluctant to give up my own precious baby, Red Cabal. So I guess my question is, do I have a chance of making Red Cabal a part of Agony Empire?

Historically, we have always taken the approach that if you want to join Agony that you commit your main toon and the majority of your play time to PvP with us as a member of Agony Unleashed. From a mechanics point of view it makes things easier but we have also found from past experience that players that do not commit don't generally "fit" with us. Examples of which, can be, flying with other groups when we have scheduled gangs, not being available to support Agony for the more boring strategic ops that are sometimes necessary. All of this being said you should contact Itkovian Beddict and discuss it with him. There may be other options that can be looked into that would enable you (and your wife) to still maintain Red Cabal and play with your friends while participating in gangs with us.

Okay, I'll contact Itko. I just want to add a few more comments here though:

I have, for the most part, always been a loner in EvE. My experience with flying in gangs is limited to the few times I've been lucky enough to get away from work and participate in Agony PvP classes.

Even with no experience flying with anyone else, my intuition tells me I wouldn't want to fly with anyone else anyway. I'm not looking for excitement or pure pew. I like the serious commitment to intelligence and openness to discovery that Agony seems to exude. I am fully ready to do the "boring" work necessary to maintain a tactical advantage. I am perfectly willing to commit all of my (very limited) play time to Agony Empire. But again, my only stipulation is that I still get to lead Red Cabal, even if the Cabal belongs to the Empire when it's all said and done. I'll contact Itko soon.

Yeah definitely have a chat to Itko, but imho it takes a day to train an alt that can keep your corp/alliance if that is an issue.
