Congrats on your Nobel Peace Prize! Well deserved. How do you plan on collecting your roughly 0.002 Euro?

Don't vote. Seriously though, an unusual choice (in that it is not an individual) for a Nobel Peace Prize but yet it makes sense and is well-deserved from a historical perspective. Edit: Sancho I must admit your topic title gave me a minor heart attack - at first I thought it was a Bye thread! :)

I agree with you, Dhalia, but some things are better late than never. The EU was a marvelous idea that worked well and it's past due for recognition. I know shit's hitting the fan right now but that doesn't negate the 60 years (?) or so of success.

No sillier than giving it to Obama before he'd done anything.

it's the nobel peace prize. the prize that really doesn't have any value beyond a political one.

This pretty much. The reasons of the prize aren't any less valid, but the timing of it amidst the Euro crisis makes it highly suspect to me.

Actually Norway isn't a part of European Union, they got too much oil (and good pals in the nato) to be bothered with that kind of things :P

Yep... And I know what happened. I just don't "get it" as in why they gave the peace price to the EU

EU is a great way to prevent war. Appearantly EU talks are just as rewarding and fun as a good war for politicians. Considering state dinners are cheaper and less bloody then yet another european war it's an ok deal and it's perfectly justified to earn a nobel peace price. Now they get to argue who will be picking it up and where to spend the money on. It's a scheme to keep the peace. Who knows what would have happened if it wasn't given any time soon.

Europe's history goes a bit like this: "Hey, my country is in a social and economical crisis, I think we'll start a war to kick-start everything up" Today instead of using my taxes to murder the greek people or whoever, my country is using my taxes to pay for... I dunno, whatever else the EU needs to keep afloat. I think that's a win ? We have to remember, whatever deep shit Europe is in right now, certainly beats getting murdered IRL by a guy I could have been playing Eve with yesterday.

AHHHH!!! Do vote, but if you don't like the RvB candidate, vote Libertarian or Green or (other third party). That's the only way to express your displeasure at the mainstream candidates. If you don't vote, your displeasure is written off as apathy.

Meh, not sure I buy the EU as peace keeper, it's not like Norway has invaded anyone despite them rolling around in their oil money and having the good sense to stay out of the EU. But hey, at least it wasn't the Nobel prize for economics, now that'd have been a joke award.

Didn't that one go to the Greek minister of economy?
