CCP think of this the same way they do the skill queue - ie if they provide you a way to do this out of game then logins drop and I guess that's a key metric for most game companies who usually require periodic funding.
Edit - although you could probably work something out (copy corp chat to irc, irc to corp chat) with an irc shell account and an Eve alt.

eve radio apparently has manged to relay in-game chat to an irc channel. Did some googling, but was unable to find how they do this.
