So yeah, I'm currently sitting here downloading the Alpha client. I got invited to be an alpha tester, and truth be told I feel kinda bad - I have no interest in buying the game at all. But what the hell, I got it and you didn't :P

Most of my rabid BF3 pals didn't even get a taste of this and I did. Oh sweet, delicious irony.

I've no idea why I got an Alpha invite, honestly... I've linked all my accounts so my Veteran status is decent (5?), I've added them on Facebook and Twitter and signed up for the newsletter etc. but which of these actions, if any, got me invited I don't know.

EDIT:

Can I join the Battlefield 3 Closed Alpha Trial?

The Alpha is a closed test and by invitation only. If you'd like to have a chance to be called upon make sure to register for our newsletter and ensure
your Veteran status is up to date.
We are also not giving away keys to the Alpha Trial on any of our social networking platforms.

Remember the NDA, Temp... or you'll find yourself with no Alpha access before too long :P

They are putting the unholy rage on those that posted vidoes on youtube etc. atm

Dunno about #1, but as to #2, no. It requires both Windows Vista/7 and a DirectX 10 or 11 video card, neither of which I have. I don't plan on rebuilding my computer for another year or so, so barring some catastrophic failure I'll be skipping this one.

Things to keep in mind - code during alpha and beta is very un-optimised, but it runs fine on maxed out settings on the rig I built last year for COD: Black Ops.

Off-topic. Jake you are either ignoring me or your spamfilter on your gmail account which I have I have is being enthusiastic ;) Its still a non-trivial engineering solution but I did (very briefly) find something that fitted the bill. No chance of it though - guy is bankrupt. No point in PMing you as you never read them for months :P

A while ago he was looking into some tech stuff for me, and it would have helped out with BF3 a bit ;)

Hey all, Hopefully some of you remember me. I'm still on an extended EVE break, but the good news is I've finished moving and have started grad school. I'll probably get back to EVE closer to winter after they release the next expansion (I've been keeping up with all the EVE drama and I'm not too upset that I've been logged out though most of it). I know my trial ended early, but expect another application later this year. Anyway, in the mean time, BF3 looks amazing and I noticed you have a platoon going. Any chance I can get in on this, or is it only for current Agony members? If not, I'd still like to play a few rounds with you, beta or retail. My soldier name is ThatsMr_n00b_2u

Beta ended last night :( Over the weekend they opened up the 64 player map Caspian Border which is true BF style and much better then the rush map. Now we have to wait two weeks for the release, but I'm actually glad they ended the beta: too many cheaters (no punk buster) and kill whores, plus lots of bugs and no way to make your own squads. Retail version should fix most of the beta issues.
