Well... two of the original ATDI members (vocals and guitar) reformed as The Mars Volta, yes... :D

OK going for Kerz point from the OP:

The bands were best known for:
The Animals - House of the Rising Sun
The Kinks - Lola
The Hollies - Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress (got it before I read the freebie)

The Zombies - I don't know, I should, but I don't.
The Yardbirds - Another I should know. I'd have said "For Your Love" but that's the song Kerz linked so, I guess not.

(OK, I looked it up and I know the answer now for the Zombies now. Still not sure for the Yardbirds, could be one of two. But no spoilers for the moment.)

Now to add two "the" bands:
The Marmelade

The Original Caste: One Tin Soldier and
Mr. Monday

Edit: fix fail spelling

The Zombies - "She's not there" and "Time of the season" are the only I can recall offhand. Time of the Season is the first instance of usage of phrase "who's your daddy?" in my recollection as well. Lola is excellent, but always loved Destroyer from The Kinks...

thanks all - and thanks for spreading the Signal !

Dazed And Confused
Men of war have long known that warriors must often abandon those verities they defend. Peace, human kindness, love... for they hold no meaning to the enemy. And so, to win, do we become what we despise... and despise what we become?

Yes I changed that about 3 million times - thing is .... Dazed and Confused - while not that terribly popular became one of the best of the best for tribute bands and is recognized best from not the band that wrote it....

Led Zeppelin - does a great cover... although most think they are the original...

and Yes I do like their version better... Led Zeppelin

Yes, "Time of the Season" for the Zombies. I'd say "Heart Full of Soul" for the Yardbirds, or "For Your Love". Does anyone cover the Yardbirds version of "Dazed and Confused"? The lyrics were completedly redone for the Led Zeppelin version, but the tune is essentially the same.
