I've got a couple year old plantronics usb headset that has held up way better than I would have dreamed. I keep thinking about getting something new but it's hard to consider it when the old ones still work great.

+1 for Plantronics. I use a $25 Plantronics set with just the two standard analog jacks (headphone, mic) that I picked up with a gift card from Best Buy a while back and love it.

I just got a plantronics, since it was 50% off at EB Games about two weeks ago. It's not the USB ones, can't stand those for mics.

Never got on with wired headsets - I have this unfortunate habit of getting up and walking away with them on :@

I got a Logitech wireless one now. Battery lasts for maybe 5 hours, recharges in 30 mins or so, can be used on recharge. I can wander off to the kitchen, get a drink and still hear what's happening on the machine upstairs.

The only thing I'd say is that while its perfect for speech, its not for music. Bit lightweight on the bass.

Edit for linkie

sennheiser headsets are worth their weight in gold. I have run a PC161 for several years now. and several of my corp mates run PC 350s. none of us have had any problems with any of them.

Plantronics are pretty decent though I also use Sennheiser nowadays, which are worth every penny imho.

Grrr Thanks all. I just wish mine worked. My giant monkey-like ears require large, comfy ear goggles. I had better go try some out in person - how do plantronics rate comfort-wise?

I have the wired version of that headset. I can wear it for a few hours comfortably. My ears will ache a bit after a while (5-6 hours straight) from the compression but I have a big head. :P If you take them off for a few minutes and rest it goes away quickly though. I've only run into that on weekend binge play sessions though.

I've owned several razer products including mice, headsets and a keyboard and they've all broken for various reasons. I no longer recommend them to anyone unless they really, really, really want a top of the line wireless mouse.

Edit:

I've gone through a lot of headsets trying to find ones that fit my large ears and are also not uncomfortable to wear for long periods with glasses and the big Plantronics ones are the only ones I've found so far. The ones I use atm are the cheapest closed-ear non-usb variety but I think the headset itself is the same on all the big ones and they're very comfortable.

I have a Creative Fatality headset at work and a Logitech G35 I use at home. The former is pretty robust, has lasted a good long while, but the cord is a little short for my tastes. The latter has a nice long cord and is very comfy, VERY good mic quality, but the cord is vinyl canvas wrapped and kinks up like a motherfscker. Drives me insane. Other than that, I like my headsets.

I've got one of these somewhere and I'm pretty sure it's made of adamantium. If you want a pretty cheap headset that will survive until the heat death of the universe I'd recommend one, not terrible when it comes to comfort or sound quality but not great either.

This.

Sennheiser ftw. If you like the way my voice sounds when i bark out orders or call tackle, get a Sennheiser. I also like them because they don't cover my ears completly, helping me stay cool.

Plantronics 777 is what I currently use, very comfortable despite the double whammy of large ears and glasses. Before that I had the Steelseries 5H which are even more comfortable, but the sound quality particularly for music wasn't as good, and the cord was kinda fragile and had a weird tendency to snag on stuff and curl up.

I recently upgraded to The Logitech G330

I really like the behind the head-band as I can drop it down to my shoulders and actually have a conversation with the wife and not miss something important.

The only draw-back (possibly) is that you have to use the mic on the left side as it doesn't reverse but it is super comfy.
Men of war have long known that warriors must often abandon those verities they defend. Peace, human kindness, love... for they hold no meaning to the enemy. And so, to win, do we become what we despise... and despise what we become?

Very hard to wear when you've got glasses on but otherwise I agree completely with this, that style of headset is one I used to wear (after I went through a lot trying to find one that didn't pinch my ears to hell) all the time before I started having to wear glasses 24/7 to see.
