So it seems that there is an exploit, which prevents you from showing up in local, allowing you ample time to seek out your ratter prey and dispatch him before he has any realization of what is about to happen.

This has caused an epic threadnought on the EVE forums.

I don't want to engage in speculation, so here are just the facts:

* Video (youtube) apparently proves an exploit exists. It is said to have been tested on sisi, bugreported and attached to a defect.
* A member of Pandemic Legion seems to be very effective in catching ratters (eve-kill.net) in the drone regions. A feat that usually take a lot of dedication and some luck.
* Same member has apparently been banned (eveonline.com) from the game. (Possibly a PL troll!!) :mistrust:

TL;DR of the thread: It is very light on facts. One group accuses another group of being macro ratters. The other group accuses the first group of being exploiters. And so on. One or two PL members seems to be confirming parts of the story, but there are a lot of alts and trolls posting, so it very hard to sort out.

If said PL member did indeed use an exploit to catch these ratters, I support CCPs decision to ban him. EVE is an eat or be eaten kind of game, we all agree, but hackers and cheaters need to be exterminated. Will be interesting to see how this develops, though. Will more ppl use the exploit? Will it get fixed?

From reading a thread on Kugu's site it would appear that there is an app that some people in PL (and apparently Kartoon from goons) had access to which selectively blocks network traffic between the server and client (specifically related to local channel). This stops the person appearing in the new system Local until just before they target the ratter (reading the thread it seems the exploiter needs to appear in local just before trying to gank the ratter or their client will DC). I can understand the frustration of finding people using macros to rat in 0.0 making it hard to catch them, but exploiting via an external application is pretty obviously against the Eve EULA too...

Aaaaaaah now i know what happened in S25C-K a few weeks ago, i was in there with Copter Pilot and someone else (sorry can't recall who it was ), we had a few other guys in ERVK-P as backup. Gate fire and an Inty came in, Copter decloaks and started killing him, i warped in closer to whore the mail and so did the other guy ... POP goes the Inty. All of a sudden a lot of reds decloak around us and after that local goes up, we all managed to get out but we had no clue how that happened. There was never a gate fire, no cyno nor did they warp in. They just magicly apeared.

That's the kind of behaviour I have come to expect from PL and Goons tbh, use every exploit and dirty trick in the book. It is retarded and should lead to permabans.

Has anyone else been seeing a fairly massive (minutes in some cases) lag on the "EVE System > Channel changed to xxx Local Channel" announcement recently? That seems to coincide with the threadnaught when viewed in retrospect. People always cheat. As long as you're having fun then it shouldn't annoy you. Petition if you spot but if you let it get to you then they get double the giggles don't they? Imaginary spaceships paid for by imaginary currency. Why worry?

I believe cheating is making the game easier for you, it's not done to annoy other players - but it surely can. To have fun we all should respect game rules.

I said that earlier. I'm not condoning any cheating but if you want to get paranoiac about it then you'll "see" it everywhere.

Nobody is getting "paranoiac" but it's an obvius exploit which would be annoying if someone used it against me. It's not the matter of "annoying or not" but if some people get their hands on a indestructible ships this game would become quite one-sided

Sorry to kind of derail the discussion, but this is a fallacy basically, and kind of annoys me a little bit. It's the same kind of argument that some people who advocates more liberal drug laws use. "If it isn't hurting you, why do you care?". The reason it's a fallacy is that there is no way to guarantee that what someone else is doing has absolutely no impact on your situation.

I'm definitely in the boat of banning any and all exploits knowingly being used. Simply stated, this game cannot head down the path of counter-strike where hackers became the population. It's true if you're not having fun you should find a new game to play, but to anyone who has any competitive strain in them, losing a fight to a cheater will annoy the heck out of you. Which leads to either a) joining them, complaining about them or c) quitting.

* Macro ratters ganked by PL member using a tool to hide from local channel till the last second (to stop the macro seeing him and warping out)
* Non macro ratter spots this, sombody replicate thes issue, bug reports it
* A PL member is banned for exploiting
* Forums light up with news that some other PL and some Goons have access to the tool used to perform this trick

Would the exploitee show up on d-scan, or is he pretty much "not there" according to the game. It seems odd... And I like local, so uh. Kill the exploit

Yes, he shows up on d-scan. If both players used the exploit it would function just as in w-space.

If its shown to be multiple PL players using it then I have a nice little punishment (as well as the banstick). Change the LCO (one in Amamake) from "Pandemic Legion - Winners of Alliance Tournament VI" to : Pandemic Legion - We Cheated

Let's for arguments sake say that The Monkeysphere is telling the truth and didn't use the no local exploit. How could you arrange things so that you would suddenly appear in a belt within arazu point range of a ratter without having to warp there first? If you could log off in a belt without emergency warping away, would you appear instantly in the belt after logon? Are there any way(s) to prevent your ship from emergency warping when you log? If it is possible, then it seems to me that all you need is a 1/X roll where X is the number of belts in the system, eventually you will get lucky and catch the ratter in the same belt that you log in to and be able to point him very quickly. Is this possible? I think the thread about monkeysphere being banned is a troll thread. I am not sure he is banned at the moment. The whole thing is pretty crazy.

You can bubble yourself in before logging off. But afaik you don't reappear in same spot when logging back on.

From what I understand we are not talking about someone not warping, not coming through a gate etc. The issue at hand is that he does not show up in local chat, so no one knows he's in system until he has a point on you.

It may be that the existence in local chat somehow required for the victims client to show the attacker warp in. Remember that things do not always appear the same on all clients and the server at the same time. In fact, I don't think they ever really do.

On Kugu there are claims (from PL people) that this whole thing is a massive troll and no such tool exists. This may or may not be true, but what is clear is that lots of dramaz have ensued
