Looking to totally rebuild except for the case. I prefer amd cpus, nvidia video cards, corsair ram. Ive been out of the loop for new hardware for a couple years. So my preferences could be dated. Any suggestions?

OK, a couple of questions first. How old is the case and what's the power supply in it? Newer main boards and graphics cards come with newer power requirements/connectors that your power supply needs to give them. Also if the case is too old, it may not support the number and placement of connectors on today's main boards. Second, what's your budget? That will have a significant bearing on recommended parts. You realize that you may get a better PC for a better price by buying a whole new one than replacing parts in your current case? Do you have any other requirements? Me, I don't like a lot of noice from my machine, so I've gone for a quieter installation. If you've got any other requirements like that, let us know. I keep thinking of more questions: What are you current disks? Newer PCs are pretty well all SATA disks these days. Are you OK with moving data from older disks to newer SATA drives, or do you want to support the current drives?

What is it that your current system isn't doing for you? That's a nice looking "fit".

Well id like to upgrade the motherboard as well as the graphics card. Theres a bug with it and my soundcard that is isolated to that specific chipset/motherboard. So that basically means replacing everything else. And instead of ripping it apart, id just assume start on a clean slate and hand this old pc to the wife who thinks pcs are good for school work and solitare. Ill just transfer over the soundcard to the new pc. Note: I dont want to run dual video cards.

These are both helpful general guides to suggested component sets (Ars one is quite out of date...):

In general.... if you go with an AMD cpu/motherboard you should consider an ATI graphics card. AMD and ATI merged a while back.
See you in fleet,

Ok. Going for this processor. AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition Deneb 3.0GHz Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Processor Model Probably this mobo MSI 790XT-G45 AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard Maybe this video card. SAPPHIRE 100282SR Radeon HD 5850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card w/ATI Eyefinity I like the eyefinity since I plan on linking up 3 monitors in the future. I just need to find a good heatsink fan and some ram. Does anything I have listed not match up?
